Astuwi / The Contact Period is a stack of trifold accordion cards which were designed with the communities of Eastport, Maine and neighboring Sipayik in mind. All objects in the photomontages were borrowed from local residents, photographed, and digitally rearranged. The collaborative text is a compilation of unfamiliar words and phrases that encapsulated resident artists’ experience in place and time.
